Will this actually stop my car from being stolen?
Honest answer: Nothing is 100% theft-proof. If a professional with an angle grinder and 10 minutes of uninterrupted time wants your car badly enough, they'll get it.
Real-world answer: Yes, this will stop 99% of theft attempts.
Here's why:
Thieves operate on speed and stealth. According to FBI data, most car thefts take under 60 seconds. They're looking for:
- Unlocked cars
- Cars with keys inside
- Cars with weak security can defeat FAST
When they see our lock, one of two things happens:
- They skip your car immediately (deterrence—the visual does the work)
- They try to defeat it, realise it's taking too long, and bail (time/noise protection)
As Waterloo Police put it: "Some thieves may be discouraged if they see the added time and effort it would take to remove such a device."
Bottom line: This lock doesn't need to be unbreakable. It just needs to be harder than the car parked next to you. That's how deterrence works.

Can a thief just cut the seatbelt or the cable?

Can a thief just cut the seatbelt or the cable?
Let's break this down:
The seatbelt webbing:
Yes, seatbelt material can be cut with a very sharp knife (that's how emergency responders remove crash victims). However:
- It requires a specific type of blade and sawing motion (not a quick snip)
- Even if cut, the lock is still attached to your steering wheel - they'd have to then remove the tether, which is hardened steel
- Cutting webbing in the dark, at an awkward angle, while paranoid about getting caught = not appealing to thieves
The steel tether:
Our tether is a 10mm braided steel cable with a hardened core. In our testing:
- ❌ 36" bolt cutters: only dented it, couldn't cut through
- ❌ Hacksaw: 5+ minutes of loud sawing (and didn't fully sever)
- ⚠️ Angle grinder: Yes, this would work - but it's LOUD, showers sparks, and takes 30-60 seconds
Compare to generic seatbelt locks on Amazon:
Car and Driver tested one in 2024 and wrote: "Our bolt cutters made quick work of the connector cables and freed the wheel. So much for security."
We're not the same. We use aircraft-grade cable that's twice as thick as those cheap products.
Real-world: If a thief escalates to an angle grinder, they're making a SCENE. Sparks flying. Loud grinding noise. Someone's calling the cops. That's not how opportunistic car thieves operate - they want in and out in under 60 seconds.

Will it fit my car? (I have X model / weird steering wheel / etc.)

Will it fit my car? (I have X model / weird steering wheel / etc.)
Short answer: Almost certainly yes. We've tested this on over 40 different vehicle makes/models from the 1980s to 2025.
Steering wheel compatibility:
- Diameter: 13" to 17" (covers 99% of passenger vehicles)
- Thickness: Thin sport wheels to thick comfort/luxury grips (all work)
- Shape: Round, D-shape, flat-bottom, even yoke-style (Tesla Model S/X works)
Seatbelt compatibility:
- Standard US, European, and Asian seatbelt latches (ISO specification)
- Works with driver OR passenger seat (your choice—most use driver side)
Vehicle types we've confirmed: ✅ Sedans, coupes, hatchbacks (Honda, Toyota, VW, BMW, Mercedes, etc.)
✅ SUVs and crossovers (Ford, Chevy, Jeep, Nissan, Mazda, etc.)
✅ Pickup trucks (Silverado, F-150, Tacoma, RAM—even Super Duty models)
✅ Vans (work vans, passenger vans, Sprinters)
✅ Classic cars (1960s–present, if they have 3-point seatbelts)
The only exceptions:
- Very old cars without 3-point seatbelts (pre-1970s - though some classics have retrofitted belts)
- Some extremely large trucks with unusual cabin layouts (rare—even F-250s work if you adjust the seat forward slightly)
Still not sure? We offer a fitment guarantee: Order it, try it in your car. If it doesn't fit for any reason, return it within 60 days for a full refund.
Reality check: Our return rate for "doesn't fit" is under 1%. It almost always works.

Is it a hassle to use every time I park? I'm worried I'll get lazy.

Is it a hassle to use every time I park? I'm worried I'll get lazy.
This is THE most common concern - and the #1 reason we obsessed over making installation stupid simple.
Here's the truth: If a lock is annoying to use, you won't use it. We've seen it happen with Disklok (bulky, slow) and pedal locks (awkward angles). People buy them with good intentions, then they end up in the trunk gathering dust.
Our lock takes 5 seconds. Literally.
Install:
- Loop tether over wheel (1 sec)
- Click buckle into seatbelt (1 sec)
- Turn the key to lock (1 sec)
Removal:
- Turn key (1 sec)
- Unbuckle (1 sec)
- Toss in the door pocket (1 sec)
You already buckle your seatbelt 10+ times a day without thinking about it. This is the same motion. After a week, it becomes muscle memory.
One customer (Rachel W.) said:
"I have carpal tunnel and arthritis. I can still use this, no problem. The loop slips over easily, the buckle clicks in just like a seatbelt, and the key turns smoothly."
Another (David R.) said:
"I keep it in my door pocket and snap it on when I park. Watch my video - I timed it at 4 seconds. No joke."
Think of it this way:
- Hassle = 5 seconds per park
- Benefit = peace of mind, protection from $5k–$30k loss (car theft, insurance deductible, hassle of no car for weeks)
Is 5 seconds worth it? You tell us.
Bonus: Because it's so easy, you'll actually use it - which means it'll actually protect you. That's the whole point.

What if I lose the keys? Will I be stranded?

What if I lose the keys? Will I be stranded?
Great question - and no, you won't be stranded. Here's why:
1. We give you 3 keys
 Most people keep:
- Key #1 on their main car keyring
- Key #2 in their wallet/purse (backup)
- Key #3 at home in a safe place
Losing all three is extremely unlikely. (One customer—Tyler H.—already lost one key in the first month and said: "Thank god they give you 3!")
2. A locksmith can open it
In the worst-case scenario (lost all keys), any locksmith can open the lock in 5-10 minutes without damaging your car. It'll cost you $50-$100, but you're not stuck.
Compare to "The Club":
Many cheap locks use generic wafer keys that can be copied at hardware stores OR picked in seconds (see: LockPickingLawyer). Our lock has a high-security 8-pin cylinder—much harder to pick, but still manageable for a professional if needed.
Bottom line: Losing keys is inconvenient, but not catastrophic. Use your spare keys wisely, and you'll be fine.

Will it scratch or damage my steering wheel / interior?

Will it scratch or damage my steering wheel / interior?
Absolutely not - and we've specifically designed it to prevent that.
We've read the horror stories:
- Heavy Disklok is leaving indentations on soft leather wheels
- Metal bars gouging dashboards
- Sharp edges scuffing centre consoles
Here's how we avoid all that:
✅ Silicone-coated wheel loop
The part that touches your steering wheel has a soft silicone sleeve. It's grippy (won't slip), protective (no scratches), and gentle on leather, wood, or any wheel finish.
✅ Smooth plastic buckle housing
The seatbelt lock portion has rounded edges - no sharp metal corners. It rests gently against the seat, not the console.
✅ Lightweight design (2.2 lbs)
Unlike heavy wheel covers (4-10 lbs) that can press into soft materials, ours is light enough that it won't leave marks even if left on for days.
One tip: Just make sure there's no dirt/grit on your steering wheel before installing (dirt + friction = scratches, with ANY device). A quick wipe-down is all you need.
Bottom line: Thousands of customers use this on luxury cars, classics, and leather interiors daily - zero damage reports.

If my car has an alarm or immobiliser, do I really need this?

If my car has an alarm or immobiliser, do I really need this?
Yes - here's why:
Alarms and immobilisers have known weaknesses:
1. Relay attacks (keyless cars)
If your car has push-button start, thieves can use a relay device to clone your key fob signal from outside your house, unlock your car, and start it - all without triggering the alarm.
Emma L. (Tesla owner, verified buyer) said:
"Relay attacks are huge for keyless cars. Someone can clone my fob signal and unlock/start my car in seconds. But they still can't DRIVE it with this lock on."
2. OBD port hacking
Many modern cars can be hacked via the diagnostic port (under the dash). Thieves plug in a device, program a new key in 30 seconds, and drive off. Your immobiliser? Bypassed.
3. Tow trucks
An alarm won't stop someone from just towing your car away (happens more than you'd think, especially with high-value vehicles).
4. Smash-and-grab before the alarm helps
Thieves can smash your window, be inside in 3 seconds, and start trying to hotwire/bypass systems. Even if your alarm goes off, will anyone respond in time?
Our lock addresses all of these:
- ✅ Relay attack? They can start the car, but can't steer.
- ✅ OBD hack? Same - engine runs, wheel locked.
- ✅ Tow truck? The steering wheel won't turn, so towing is much harder (wheel needs to rotate for flat-bed loading).
- ✅ Smash-and-grab? Lock is visible BEFORE they break in - many won't bother once they see it.
Think of it as layered security:
- Layer 1: Your factory alarm/immobiliser (stops casual attempts)
- Layer 2: Our lock (stops physical theft even if Layer 1 is bypassed)
- Layer 3: Maybe a tracker (helps recover if stolen despite Layers 1 & 2)
Police and insurers recommend this approach. As the RCMP (Canada) says: "Use a steering wheel lock every time you park your vehicle."
Gregory D. (police officer, verified buyer) wrote:
"I'm a cop in a city with bad car theft. We see thieves give up on cars with steering locks ALL THE TIME. They're looking for quick, quiet jobs. Anything that adds 30+ seconds makes them move on."

                First-Time Installation Tips
🎯 Adjust your seat position:
If the cable feels too tight or loose, move your seat forward/back one notch. The 720mm cable accommodates nearly all vehicle layouts, but seat position affects tension.
🎯 Test the lock before driving:
After locking, try to turn your steering wheel more than a few degrees — you shouldn't be able to. If it rotates freely, the cable isn't looped correctly. Re-do step 1.
🎯 Find your storage spot:
Door pocket, centre console, or glove box — figure out where you'll keep it. Having a designated spot = you'll actually use it every time.
🎯 Form the habit:
Week 1 might feel like "one more thing to do." By Week 2, it's muscle memory. You'll forget you're even doing it — just like locking your doors.
